Realtek Joins Open Core Protocol International Partnership
Business Wire, April 5, 2005
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Open Core Protocol International Partnership (OCP-IP) today announces that Realtek Semiconductor Corp. has joined the organization. Utilizing OCP technology allows Realtek to bring costs down on existing technologies while maintaining strong features and quality devices. OCP also allows Realtek's customers to reduce design times, risks and costs and quickly introduce highly competitive solutions.
The addition of Realtek to the membership roster adds to the tremendous support that OCP-IP has already enjoyed throughout Asia and adds to membership including Semiconductor Technology Academic Research Center (STARC), FueTrek, Yamaha, Governing Steering Committee member, Toshiba, Kawasaki, Zuken and several leading universities.
Realtek is one of the world's largest and most successful IC design houses. Their efforts to provide the ultimate in pioneering IC technology, along with a firm commitment to creating unique and innovative designs for a broad range of high-tech applications, have won the company a worldwide reputation. The company is located in the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park -- Taiwan's "Silicon Valley."
Realtek will use OCP in their SoC products including communications network and multimedia applications.
OCP-IP members receive free training and support, free software tools, and free documentation, enabling them to focus on the challenges of SoC design. Leveraging OCP-IP's infrastructure eliminates the need to internally design, document, train and evolve a proprietary standard and support tools, freeing up critical resources for the real design work and providing enormous cost savings.
"Our specialization is the ability to bring costs down on existing technologies while maintaining strong features and quality devices. Many of our techniques are patented and are used in our IP library which is utilized throughout the organization," said Realtek's Executive Vice President Jessy Chen. "Using OCP in our ongoing R&D efforts rapidly brings new technologies into the Realtek product line resulting in a much shorter time to market."
"Realtek is a one of the world's leading IC design, testing and distribution firms," said Ian Mackintosh, president of OCP-IP. "We are delighted to have them adopt and endorse OCP and we look forward to working with them in the future."
