AmSafe Awarded FAA Supplemental Type Certificate to Outfit Mooney Ovation and Bravo Aircraft with State-of-the-Art Inflatable Restraint Systems
Business Wire, April 7, 2005
PHOENIX -- Mooney Ovation and Bravo Pilot and Copilot Seats Feature AmSafe AAIR(R) Seat Belt Airbags as Standard Equipment
AmSafe Aviation of Phoenix and Mooney Airplane Co. of Kerrville, Texas, have announced their collaboration to install AmSafe Aviation Inflatable Restraints (AAIR(R)) in pilot and copilot seats of all Mooney Bravo and Ovation models (M20K, M20M, M20R, M20S).
Rear seats of these aircraft can also be fitted with the AAIR(R) as an option. First deliveries of the AAIR(R)-equipped Mooney Ovation 2 and Bravo GX aircraft will be made on April 5, 2005.
Mooney's Bravo and Ovation models feature state-of-the-art Garmin 1000 avionics and a wide range of safety systems onboard. These single-engine, high-efficiency airplanes are further enhanced with the new inflatable restraint system manufactured and supplied by AmSafe Aviation, the global leader in aviation restraint systems since 1970. AmSafe is the exclusive supplier of conventional pilot and passenger restraints to Mooney.
The Mooney version of the AAIR(R) consists of a three-point restraint system that deploys away from the seat occupant during a dynamic crash event. The occupant's head, neck and upper torso are cushioned from damaging head strikes and soft tissue damage that can occur in a forward-facing crash incident. NTSB general aviation statistics show that most crash events are survivable, especially when head and neck injuries are minimized with proper protection.
"We believe that this product is the most significant safety enhancement available to the general aviation flying community," said AmSafe AAIR(R) General Manager Joe Smith.
The AmSafe AAIR(R) seat belt airbag system has been flying on commercial aircraft since 2001. AAIR(R)-equipped aircraft now include the Airbus A319-112, A320-214, A321-211, A330-200, A340-500 and A340-600; Boeing 777-200ER and 747-400; Bombardier CRJ700; and British Aerospace Jetstream 41.
The AmSafe AAIR(R) has recently been selected as standard equipment for all Cessna single-engine piston aircraft pilot and copilot seats, and as options for second seats and third-row bench seats. AAIR(R) has also been chosen for the first business jet installation aboard the Adam Aircraft A700.
The AAIR(R) is contracted for use on 17 general aviation airframes. For more information about the AAIR(R) or AmSafe Aviation, visit www.amsafeaviation.com.
