Business Wire, August 10, 2005
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Genesis(R) Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for flat-panel monitors, TVs and other consumer display products, today announced that global television manufacturer TTE Corporation (a joint venture between TCL and Thomson), has selected Genesis Microchip's FLI8532 video display solution for its newest LCD and Plasma televisions. This design win includes eleven new LCD TV platforms ranging in size from 26- to 42-inches, available now in Asia and two new Plasma television models, a 42-inch and 50-inch, scheduled to be available in China later this year. These new platforms rely on Genesis to provide outstanding image quality and carry the exclusive DDHD by Faroudja(TM) brand on their faceplates for easy consumer recognition.
"As a global leader in the television industry, we rely on Genesis' competitively-priced, advanced video display solutions to provide the highest level of image quality and integration for our broad range of flat-panel TVs," said Shi Wan-Wen, president of TTE China. "China, as well as the rest of Asia, are extremely important markets for TTE and Genesis is a trusted supplier who offers the technical expertise and high-volume capacity we need to serve these fast-growing markets."
"Genesis' in-country engineering staff worked closely with TTE in China to develop the outstanding image quality seen on these new flat-panel TVs," said Raphael Mehrbians, senior vice president of Product Marketing, Genesis Microchip. "We believe our on-site support combined with the flexibility of the Cortez architecture, enabled TTE to simultaneously ramp multiple television platforms into production."
These latest LCD TVs from TTE are HD-compatible and support digital inputs. Consumers can choose from 26-inch, 27-inch, 32-inch, 37-inch and 42-inch models, with several platforms offering Picture-in-Picture functionality. TTE has launched an aggressive retail marketing campaign in China to promote these DDHD by Faroudja-branded TVs, including television advertising, faceplate logo inclusion, in-store promotions and branded packaging.
The FLI8532 is a highly integrated, single-chip television solution for flat-panel televisions. It features Faroudja's Emmy award-winning, advanced video decoding, directional correlational deinterlacing (DCDi) and video enhancement technologies, whose inclusion is represented by the Faroudja DCDi Cinema(TM) brand. An integrated multi-standard 3-D video decoder provides support for NTSC, PAL and SECAM standards and the integrated VBI (Vertical Blanking Interval) processor supports Teletext, Closed Captioning, V-chip and other VBI services. The FLI8532 also features proprietary technologies to improve the performance of Liquid Crystal Displays for television applications including LCD Overdrive technology to reduce motion smearing artifacts and an Active Color Management(TM) system to improve the dynamic color range. An embedded microcontroller and versatile On-Screen-Display (OSD) facilitate rapid product design of a global television chassis.
