Trinity Ventures Closes $300 Million Trinity IX Fund

Business Wire, August 11, 2005

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Trinity Ventures, an investor in early-stage information technology companies, today announced the closing of Trinity Ventures IX. The fund will invest in the software, networking systems, and services sectors with a particular emphasis on IT security, business and consumer online services, digital media and mobile technology. The closing of Trinity IX brings Trinity Ventures' cumulative capital under management to $1.2 billion.

"We were pleased with the strong interest in the fund and how quickly we received commitments from our investors," said Larry Orr, managing general partner at Trinity Ventures, noting that the fund was significantly oversubscribed and closed ahead of the anticipated schedule. The fund is comprised primarily of commitments from returning investors, though it also includes a select number from new investors.

"We limited the fund to $300 million to maintain both our strategy of investing selectively in early stage companies and our commitment to being accessible and responsive board members," stated Orr. The fund will invest between $2 million and $20 million in approximately 30 companies.

The general partners in Trinity IX have worked together for over five years. The general partners are Tom Cole, Noel Fenton, Tim McAdam, Larry Orr, Gus Tai, and Fred Wang. The other investment professionals are Patricia Nakache, Alex Osadzinski, and Jim Tybur.
