Compass Group and Foodbuy Select Javo Beverage as Liquid Coffee Supplier; Javo Expands Production and Service Operations to Supply World's Largest Foodservice Company
Business Wire, August 15, 2005
SAN DIEGO -- Javo Beverage Company announced today that it was recently selected by Foodbuy, LLC, to be the supplier of "on-demand" coffee to Compass Group, The Americas Division for its contract feeding and hospitality operating companies. The Americas Division contains the US, Canadian and Latin American operating groups of Compass Group, PLC, the world's largest foodservice company. Through company-owned members such as: Morrison Management, Eurest, Bon Appetit, Chartwells College and University Dining, Restaurant Associates and Creative Host Services it provides food, vending and related services on client premises for thousands of locations.
The selection of Javo On-Demand by Foodbuy, LLC, the purchasing arm of Compass, followed an extensive review of the coffee's flavor, operational performance and value against many of the world's foodservice coffee heavyweights. Foodbuy secured broad and unequivocal support from the operating divisions of Compass and the product is to be installed, initially, at more than 500 locations currently serving on-demand or liquid coffee. The members and clients of Compass operate "some of the highest profile foodservice locations in the country and we expect to supply the very best products in the industry," said Mark O'Callaghan, Director of Procurement for Foodbuy. Regarding the choice of Javo, O'Callaghan said that, "Javo impressed everyone with the flavor and convenience of their coffees and we are privileged to serve coffee that will improve our customer satisfaction and enjoyment. This is a wonderful strategic partnership for both parties."
Javo's On-Demand coffee system is expected to assist Compass in managing many standard and even some challenging coffee service operations. For instance, in July, Restaurant Associates, a division of Compass, needed to serve over 100,000 cups of coffee at multiple locations, some without potable water, during the two-week National Boy Scouts Jamboree in Virginia. "The Jamboree was a good demonstration of our coffee system's abilities," said Gary Lillian, president of Javo, "it performed flawlessly and throughout the event Restaurant Associates staff members felt confident about the quality of coffee served to scouts, staff and guests."
The Compass-Foodbuy and Javo relationship is structured to be long term and the parties have executed a supply agreement covering on-demand coffee for Compass Group's diverse portfolio of operating sectors. Compass is one of the largest purchasers of on-demand coffee in the US and with future growth in its contract management and hospitality operations, company officials at Javo will witness substantial revenue growth and new opportunities. "This agreement is a significant event for our company," said Cody Ashwell, CEO and chairman of Javo Beverage. "With Compass, Javo will be executing on a national level, allowing us to take important steps toward our goal of being the preferred coffee and tea supplier to national and international foodservice enterprises," added Ashwell.
Charlotte-based Compass Group, The Americas Division is the largest contract foodservice company with $6.7 billion in revenues and more than 152,000 associates throughout the US, Canada and Latin America.
Its parent company, UK-based Compass Group PLC, was ranked the 12th largest employer by Fortune magazine in 2005. It has worldwide revenues of $21 billion with over 400,000 associates working in more than 90 countries. For more information about Compass Group, The Americas Division, visit www.cgnad.com.
