Ecora Announces Enhancements to DeviceLock® Endpoint Security Solution; New features help organizations control physical ports, wireless ports, and removable media drives on all enterprise endpoints
Business Wire, August 15, 2005
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Ecora, the leader in change and configuration management software solutions supporting IT control, compliance, and security, today announced the latest version of its endpoint security solution, Ecora DeviceLock. With new feature enhancements, Ecora DeviceLock makes it easier to control physical and wireless ports, as well as removable media drives, on thousands of enterprise endpoints to prevent unauthorized access, data theft, and the introduction of destructive malware.
In its 2005 Global Security Survey, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu found that 35 percent of the Fortune Financial 100 companies surveyed reported attacks from an internal source, compared to 14 percent in 2004, and 10 percent in 2003. 80 percent of those who experienced a breach incurred a financial loss of less than one million U.S. dollars.

"Companies today have implemented fairly effective security measures to defend against outside threats. However, attacks from the inside are now on the rise because of the influx of low cost personal and portable storage devices," said Alex Bakman. "Anybody with one of these devices can simply plug into an open port on any networked computer and begin downloading gigabytes of a company's intellectual property, financial records, customer information, and more. The only way to defend against this is to apply security policies at the user-level."
Ecora DeviceLock provides centralized management and access control for USB and FireWire ports, WiFi and Bluetooth adapters, CD/DVD and floppy drives, and other removable media devices according to user, schedule, specific device, or all three simultaneously. With Ecora DeviceLock, IT operations can produce audit-ready reports that provide proof of access control and ongoing monitoring of plug-and-play device access points throughout the IT infrastructure for compliance to internal security policies and regulatory requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and GLBA.
"While some users claim they can control certain endpoint access ports using Active Directory, it's an all or nothing method that is difficult to administer and manage," said Sebastian Carter, product manager for Ecora. "DeviceLock provides complete endpoint control with the flexibility to designate access by user, device, and/or time. IT operations can also generate reports that show exactly what files were transferred via specific ports and drives--something AD can't provide."
In its latest version, Ecora DeviceLock V.5.72 includes the ability to define a discrete list of administrator accounts so that users with local administrator privileges cannot disable or remove DeviceLock services from endpoint computers. The product's USB White List now supports devices with unique serial numbers to allow access to only unique corporate assigned devices. At the user-level, Ecora DeviceLock can now display custom messages when an access attempt is denied.
Pricing and Availability
Ecora DeviceLock V.5.71 is available immediately from Ecora with pricing starting a $35 per endpoint. Currently in Beta, Ecora DeviceLock V.5.72 will be available in the beginning of September 2005. For more information, visit www.ecora.com or call 1.877.923.2672.
