PMC-Sierra Webinar: SAS Topology Discovery Tutorial

Business Wire, August 17, 2005

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- PMC-Sierra, Inc. (NASDAQ:PMCS) will present a live webinar "SAS Topology Discovery Tutorial" on Wednesday, August 31st, 2005 at 11:00AM PT/2:00PM ET.

What to Expect

In large Storage Area Networks (SANs) disks will be added and removed during operation. Efficient discovery is essential to maintain performance during the hot insertion or removal of disks. This webinar describes the topology discovery application for a SAN using a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) expander network. It analyzes the discovery performance benefit of self-configuring expanders as compared with non-self configuring ones.

This webinar will:

--Introduce storage devices, their evolution and the SAS standard

--Describe the SAS Architecture and topology

--Explain the process of topology discovery

--Examine the two principle methods of discovery: external management client and self-configuring expander

--Analyze discovery performance of these two methods

--Provide specific example systems with selected components
