University Medical Center Tucson, AZ Selects SeeBeyond to Integrate Hospital Patient Care and Financial Systems
Business Wire, August 17, 2005
MONROVIA, Calif. -- SeeBeyond (Nasdaq:SBYN), provider of the world's first fully integrated composite application network suite (SeeBeyond ICAN Suite) for the deployment of advanced integration and composite application solutions, today announced selection by University Medical Center Tucson, AZ (UMC), a leader in the Southwestern U.S. for health, wellness, and caring and a U.S. News and World Report "Best Hospital" in 10 categories.
Recognizing the importance of a leading-edge IT strategy in the delivery of quality patient care, UMC initiated an effort to standardize on a single integration platform for its many discrete patient care and financial systems, and to eliminate one of the two outdated interface engines in the Medical Center. Through the deployment of the SeeBeyond ICAN Suite, UMC expects to gain efficiencies through the use of a fully supported, standards-based integration suite, while preserving its existing interfaces until the upgrade is complete. UMC also expects to gain a more predictable cost structure for future development -- something not available with the current interfaces, as well as the opportunity to leverage the market availability of Java developers.
"The SeeBeyond implementation and interface migration project drives both initial and long term value for the UMC medical facility and enhances our ability to provide consistent and high quality patient care," said Kevin Burns, CFO of UMC. "By enabling an immediate ability to seamlessly connect existing hospital patient care and financial systems, as well as develop a flexible, scalable, open platform foundation for future initiatives, including future efforts to provide a unified view of patient information to our practitioners at the point of patient care, the SeeBeyond implementation will deliver long-term strategic value for UMC, our practitioners and patients."
The implementation also provides UMC with the ability to enable electronic medical records consistent with federal initiatives to support a National Health Information Network of interoperable systems for healthcare delivery. The ultimate goal of this effort is to provide improved healthcare through unified single patient views, longitudinal patient medical records and the electronic prescribing of medication.
"This is a very exciting time in the healthcare industry, driven by the goal of a nationwide medical record infrastructure and the need for readiness on the part of individual medical facilities," said Wayne Owens, general manager of Healthcare for SeeBeyond. "Achieving the goals set forth in regional and national programs requires today's healthcare organizations to undertake true clinical transformations. To be cost-effective, these efforts must be supported by the ability to leverage investments in existing legacy IT systems. SeeBeyond offers complete interoperability through our composite application solution suite to make this goal a reality."
