Airpath's InterRoam Enables SkyNetGlobal's Wireless Broadband Service For McDonald's Restaurants In Singapore; Neutral Roaming Services Platform Provides Open Access To Customers
Business Wire, August 29, 2005
WALTHAM, Mass. -- Airpath Wireless, Inc., the leader in enabling management and roaming for wireless broadband networks, announced today that SkyNetGlobal, a leading provider of wireless broadband in Australia and Asia, is using InterRoam(TM) to enable roaming access to their Wi-Fi hot spots in McDonald's restaurants throughout Singapore.
InterRoam is a hosted, transaction-based clearing, settlement and rating platform that is used to solve the complex billing, settlement and clearing transactions that take place between providers of Wi-Fi and the host location, such as restaurants, hotels and airports.
For McDonald's, SkyNetGlobal operates a wireless broadband network, based on an open access model with roaming capabilities, where any customer irrespective of their country of origin, can access the hot spot service under their own provider that has established a roaming agreement with SkyNetGlobal. This can help to eliminate the user's need of having to establish new, separate accounts solely for the purpose of hot spot use.
The move will allow other providers, via InterRoam, to buy wholesale network access from SkyNetGlobal across all hot spots at 128 McDonald's restaurants throughout Singapore. After the first McDonald's opened in Singapore in 1979, the number of restaurants has grown to 131 across the island today and 6,000 staff that serve 55 million customers.
"Across the globe, InterRoam is enabling carriers, providers and location owners to create a footprint of wireless broadband that provides a growing profit base and, at the same time, provides the end-user with an easy-to-use system," said Todd Myers, CEO of Airpath.
As a completely neutral platform, InterRoam allows carriers and service providers to overcome the challenge of the fragmentation of the public Wi-Fi industry. With a single interconnection through the InterRoam platform, carriers and providers can expand their Wi-Fi footprint quickly and offer Wi-Fi services to their customers today, whether or not they have their own hotspot network. Network and service providers have complete control over their Wi-Fi roaming relationships and pricing through the InterRoam hosted service.
