N.E.T.'s Promina Selected as Bandwidth Manager of Choice for US Marine Corps' Transition Switch Modules Contract; Five-Year Term Expected to Include Approximately 200 Units of Leading Multiservice Access Platform for Wide Area Networks
Business Wire, August 8, 2005
FREMONT, Calif. -- N.E.T. Federal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:NWK), today announced that it will provide EDO Corporation (NYSE:EDO) with its Promina bandwidth manager platform for the US Marine Corps' Transition Switch Module (TSM) program. EDO's five-year, $240 million contract for TSM procurement and related services -- which includes two option years -- is expected to comprise approximately 200 Promina platforms valued at over $25 million.
According to Gary Lau, president of N.E.T. Federal, the ability to support both secure and non-secure voice calls and to dynamically re-route calls based on network availability were key criteria in the Marine Corps' selection of its flagship multiservice access solution. "Promina efficiently consolidates a variety of user traffic and applications on a single platform, with unmatched reliability for tactical deployment," said Lau.
EDO Corporation's TSM Program Manager Dana Kaeser said, "The Promina platform offers the right combination of features and versatility for voice, data and video teleconferencing as well as an emphasis on future migrations to IP, making it the best choice to meet the Marine Corps' requirements today and long into the future."
The Promina platform will deliver bandwidth management, multiplexing and technical control functions for integrating voice and data capabilities as part of TSM's Deployable Integrated Transport Suite (DITS) component. Promina will enable management and monitoring within the network's joint network management system using the extensible standard network management protocol.
The TSM program will support three major functions for the Marine Corps' communications infrastructure that will provide more robust voice/data switching, data transport and bandwidth management capabilities:
--The Deployable End Office Suite (DEOS), a standalone system that provides basic circuit switching capability, subscriber access and a call service attendant function;
--The Remote Subscriber Access Module (RSAM), which extends telephone and dial-up services to remote subscribers; and
--The Deployable Integrated Transport Suite (DITS), supported by Promina, which will be used in conjunction with DEOS to provide bandwidth management, multiplexing and technical control functions.
In addition to hardware and software, the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm fixed price/time and materials maximum TSM contract also calls for the provision of testing, training, engineering, logistics and contractor interim support services, as well as for the provision of field service representatives, spares, training devices and technical documentation. The individual TSM packages consisting of DEOS, DITS or RSAM will be integrated into modular transit cases to ensure effortless and rapid deployment, thus further enhancing the Marine Corps' ability to swiftly deploy its capabilities worldwide.
