Conexant Semiconductors Solutions Enable Coship's High-Definition IP Set-Top Box; New STB Enables Consumers to Receive and Manage Digital Video Programming
Business Wire, Dec 12, 2005
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, today announced that Coship Electronics Co., LTD, China's largest manufacturer of set-top boxes (STBs), has based their new Anysight220c IP receiver on the company's MPEG-4/H.264 high-definition digital broadcast television solution. Coship's IP STB allows consumers to receive standard and high-definition television programming over broadband access networks. Coship's IP STB is slated for deployment by service providers in Asia beginning in January of next year.
"Coship is well-known for their advanced set-top box products, and we're pleased that our silicon solutions will be used in their new cutting-edge IP receiver," said Jeff Crosby, vice president and general manager of Conexant's Broadband Media Processing business. "Coship's dedication to providing best-in-class digital media products parallels our objectives, and we look forward to further strengthening our relationship with them."
"Conexant exceeded our requirements for quality, performance and customer support, which is why they are our vendor of choice for this important product and service launch," said Mr. Wei-Min Yang, general manager of the IPTV R&D Center for Coship. "These qualities helped us earn our position as China's premier set-top box provider, and we will continue to do what is necessary to ensure we provide our customers with the best products possible."
About Conexant's Chips
Coship's Anysight220c IP set-top box is based on three Conexant chips. These include the CX24182 video decoder, the first chip in the world that was compliant with the MPEG-4 advanced video coding (AVC)/H.264 standard. This technology allows operators to transmit additional channels of digital video broadcast programming over their existing infrastructure. The new receiver also includes Conexant's CX24172 high-definition broadcast decoder required for HDTV STBs with personal video recording (PVR) capabilities, and the CX20552 USB 2.0. This device allows the Anysight220c to connect to a variety of external USB 2.0 devices and expand its capabilities.
In addition to IPTV solutions, Conexant offers a comprehensive suite of digital STB components and system solutions for worldwide satellite, terrestrial and cable entertainment broadcasting networks. The company's product offering includes silicon tuners, satellite demodulators, MPEG audio and video decoders, and dial-up modems for back-channel applications. Reference designs that help manufacturers reduce cost and speed time-to-market are also available, bundled with a range of operating systems, middleware, drivers and development tools.
