Invitrogen and Wiley Partner to Offer Selected Current Protocols™ Online; Collaboration Provides Free Access to the Best Lab Methods Available Through New iProtocol™ Website
Business Wire, Dec 12, 2005
SAN FRANCISCO -- Invitrogen Corporation (Nasdaq:IVGN), a leading life sciences company with a broad portfolio of technologies to improve and accelerate biomedical research, drug discovery and commercial bioproduction, today announced the introduction of iProtocol(TM), its latest technology and eScience contribution to the life sciences. Through a partnership with the global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb), scientists will have free access to selected Current Protocols(TM), which is the life science community's gold standard for lab research manuals.
iProtocol(TM) will provide selected content from Current Protocols(TM) titles starting with the most basic to the most advanced methods for Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology and Neuroscience. Bringing together protocols with supporting documentation, as well as required reagents, is another step towards standardization of common research workflows and expanded access to knowledge from scientists world-wide. The launch of iProtocol(TM), along with recently-introduced iPath(TM) and Vector NTI(R) Advance(TM) 10, reflect Invitrogen's continuing effort to rationalize and systematize products around the life science workflows in which they are used.
"Accelerating scientific discovery requires access to the best laboratory protocols in the world," said Greg Lucier, Chairman and CEO of Invitrogen Corporation. "Our agreement with Wiley makes it possible for iProtocol(TM) to ensure that scientists have access to a comprehensive collection of classic and cutting-edge methods used across the spectrum of biological research. Basic research and drug discovery efforts can proceed more rapidly now that the scientific community has access to proven techniques in these lab manuals through iProtocol(TM)."
"Broadening information access for researchers, scholars and practitioners is a critical mission for Wiley, and our partnership with Invitrogen facilitates that objective. What makes iProtocol(TM) even more valuable is that it makes seamless navigation and discovery possible across a growing web of published resources. For example, its functionality linking our Current Protocols(TM) 'recipes' to ecommerce sources for the 'ingredients' makes this an invaluable tool for the bench scientist," said Joe Ingram, Vice President & Executive Publisher, Current Protocols, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Life scientists are challenged daily to find the best laboratory protocols. These best practices from leading scientists worldwide will help ensure Invitrogen customers design more successful, accurate experiments.
