Allina Hospitals & Clinics Names David Kanihan Director of Public Relations

MINNEAPOLIS -- Allina Hospitals & Clinics has named David Kanihan director of public relations, a new position, reporting to Amy Phenix, vice president of communications and public relations.

In this position, Kanihan will work closely with senior leadership and communications staff from across the organization to implement media and public relations programs to advance Allina's strategic priorities. He will have overall responsibility for the development, implementation and measurement of media relations programs and will serve as a counselor to the organization on media and public relations issues. Kanihan will also manage Allina's e-communications team, which is responsible for Allina.com and the company's employee intranet site.

Kanihan comes to Allina from Ameriprise Financial (formerly American Express Financial Advisors) where he led media relations, as well as held a number of positions within corporate communications. Prior to Ameriprise Financial, Kanihan was an account supervisor in the Minneapolis office of Weber Shandwick, a national public relations firm. He began his career at IBM in San Jose, Calif., where he managed employee communications at the company's San Jose research facility. Kanihan holds a B.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
