Neartek Delivers Hardware Compression in New VTL Solution Using Comtech AHA'S AHA362-PCIX GZIP Card; AHA362-PCIX Compression Hardware Enables Neartek's Virtual Storage Engine Solution to Outperform the Competition
Business Wire, Dec 19, 2005
MOSCOW, Idaho & Westborough, Mass. -- Comtech AHA Corporation (AHA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL), and Neartek Inc., a leading developer of enterprise-class virtual tape software solutions, today announced that Neartek has integrated Comtech AHA Corporation's AHA362-PCIX GZIP compression board in the recently launched Neartek Virtual Storage Engine (VSE) version 3.0 next-generation virtual tape library and data management software solution (see Neartek release dated November 14, 2005).
Neartek's VSE is an enterprise-class virtual tape software solution that dramatically accelerates and enhances reliability of backup and restore operations for open systems environments. Unlike many VTL solutions that offer software-based compression, which may actually slow performance to slower than that of a physical tape drive and effectively destroy the benefits of VTL, VSE offers hardware-assisted compression, which maintains the high speed of VSE. Depending on the data, VSE version 3.0 delivers double the capacity of disk via hardware-based compression, with no performance degradation. This unique integration of hardware compression allows Neartek's VSE customers to cost-effectively eliminate the load of the compression function from their VTL servers to increase backup speeds and optimize capacity on disk storage. > "Neartek chose AHA's AHA362-PCIX hardware compression board because they offered the compression performance we needed to give our VSE product a competitive advantage," said Ken Sills, Vice President of Customer Service at Neartek. "AHA's GZIP board is much more cost effective than our customers purchasing extra Terabytes of VTL storage, so the choice to buy compression is a no-brainer."Comtech AHA Corporation's AHA362-PCIX card is the fastest GZIP compression solution on the market today. Using the open standard compression algorithm GZIP, the AHA362-PCIX supports both compression and decompression at a throughput of over 3.0 Gigabits per second. Ideal for manufacturers of storage area network servers, virtual tape emulation backup and recovery systems, point-to-point communication link servers and SSL accelerators, the AHA362-PCIX will improve the speed or performance for nearly any system requiring compression or decompression.
