Over 15,000,000 Online Searches for VoIP In September; Skype and Vonage Lead Google, but Overall VoIP Brand Recognition is Fragmented

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- VoIPAction reports that over 15 million online searches were conducted for VoIP search terms in September 2005. At Overture alone, over 3.6 million searches were conducted for VoIP related topics and businesses with the most searched term being 'VoIP' at 1,407,465 searches, followed by 'IP Telephony' at 558,847 searches and 'Broadband Phone' with 306,048 searches.
For VoIP company-specific searches at Overture, Skype led the pack with 197,435 searches followed closely by Vonage with 173,892 queries. The next closest VoIP Provider was GoogleTalk with 20,220 searches. Avaya placed third overall with 27,439 searches for the month and Microsoft was last out of the VoIP Providers with only 183 search queries.
The analysis further shows that multiple descriptive terms are being used by online searchers for VoIP including IP Telephony, Broadband Phone, Internet Phone, Voice Over IP and Internet Telephony.
