8:25 AM NYSE & NASDAQ New Highs/New Lows With Schaeffer's Equity Scorecard

The S&P 500 Index (SPX) and the Nasdaq Composite (COMP) were able to make some small gains in Friday's trading while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell 35 points, due in most part to Honeywell (HON).

In the Daily Market Blog at SchaeffersResearch.com we list stocks today that are achieving new annual highs or new annual lows while sporting an "extreme" Schaeffer's Equity Scorecard reading. General Cable (NYSE:BGC) and CNET Networks (NASDAQ:CNET) both score 9.0 out of 10, indicating that they both possess clear upside potential. 11:10 AM Lions Gate Entertainment Cuts Earnings Guidance

According to Yahoo! Finance, Lions Gate Entertainment (NYSE:LGF) engages in the development, production, and distribution of feature films, television series, television movies and miniseries, nonfiction programming, and animated programming. This morning before the market open, LGF lowered its EBITDA guidance. The company now sees EBITDA of $35 million versus its previous outlook of $65 million for fiscal 2006. LGF attributed part of its lowered expectations to the disappointing result from the theatrical release "IN THE MIX."

Technically speaking, shares of LGF have been trending lower since late March. This morning's negative news has sent the stock ten percent lower to $8.35, and below its major weekly moving averages.

11:27 AM Puts Trade Briskly on Dominion Resources

On Friday, puts traded briskly on Dominion Resources (NYSE:D), as put volume was 11 times heavier than average. Nearly 9,200 contracts crossed the tape, with the most active being the January 70 strike (D MN). Option speculators exchanged 6,000 D MN contracts on Friday.

A closer look into this activity shows that these contracts appeared to have been sold, as the implied volatility decreased by two percent. This contract is better than six points out-of-the-money, also suggesting the contracts were likely written. D is not an unusually volatile stock and has not seen the 70 level since May 2005. It has been consolidating its losses and trading in a sideways fashion since late October. Today, D is trading 49 cents higher to $76.47.

2:30 PM A Downgrade Ahead of Earnings

One stock that has my eye today is Comtech Telecommunications (NASDAQ:CMTL). The wireless leader is all set to report quarterly earnings tomorrow before the bell, but today A.G. Edwards downgraded the shares due to "valuation". I'm always skeptical of a downgrade or upgrade in front of earnings - and the fact that they said it was due to valuation only increases my intrigue. The bottom line is the shares are down over seven-percent on the news, but should they be able to surprise to the upside tomorrow, then be on the lookout for a vicious snap-back rally.
