Virtusa CEO Receives Prestigious National Award in Sri Lanka; Executive of Growing IT Services Firm Recognized for Contributions to Sri Lankan Business Community

Business Wire, Dec 6, 2005

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -- Virtusa Corporation, a global provider of software development and IT services, today announced that Chairman and CEO Kris Canekeratne received the Sri Lanka Sikhamani, one of the most prestigious national awards the Sri Lankan government bestows upon individuals making significant contributions to the nation.

The President of Sri Lanka honored Mr. Canekeratne with this award for his distinguished services to the Sri Lankan business community -- most specifically, for the establishment and growth of a preeminent advanced technology center in Sri Lanka. As an IT services and consulting organization whose revenues have increased 144 percent in the last two years due to strategic business expansion, Virtusa continues to build a strong presence in the US, UK, Sri Lanka and India.

"I am truly honored to receive the Sri Lanka Sikhamani award," said Mr. Canekeratne. "This would not have been possible without the support of my family and the dedication and devotion of thousands of Virtusans who have gone well beyond the call of duty to build a world-class company with an extraordinary culture of excellence. This is a culture that naturally attracts and retains the best technology professionals in the world and I am extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with so many talented and gifted Virtusans. They all work continuously to stretch the boundaries of what is possible and deliver outstanding value to our clients - all while building a culture of superior performance."

The renowned Sri Lanka Sikhamani is only permitted to be held by 200 living individuals at a time. The President of Sri Lanka presented Mr. Canekeratne with these honors at a ceremony at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on November 15. He received a certificate and a medal as a symbol of the honor bestowed by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga during the ceremony, which also included awards to such leading dignitaries as Sir Arthur C. Clarke, who invented the communications satellite concept in 1945, and Radhika Coomaraswamy, UN Special Reporter on Violence against Women.

Earlier this year, the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors awarded Mr. Canekeratne with the prestigious "Young Director of the Year 2005" for his achievements and contribution to the business community.

Mr. Canekeratne has a significant track record of creating highly successful business ventures. In addition to Virtusa, he co-founded edocs, a leader in the electronic account management and customer care space, which was recently acquired by Siebel Systems. He also was on the founding team of INSCI Corp. and a member of the executive management team that took the company public in 1993. Prior to INSCI, he worked for IECA, a wholly owned subsidiary of ADP, where he held technology management positions.

A graduate of Syracuse University with a B.S. in Computer Science, he lives in Westborough, Mass., with his wife, Tushara, and two sons, Kavan and Shane.
