Industry Expert Tom Clark Educates on Disaster Recovery at Gartner Data Center in Las Vegas

Business Wire, Dec 6, 2005

BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Tom Clark, industry expert and director of solutions and technologies for McDATA Corporation (Nasdaq: MCDTA)(Nasdaq: MCDT), educated a large audience of enterprise customers this afternoon about business continuity/ disaster recovery during a best practices session on at the Gartner Data Center Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the session, titled "In the Eye of the Hurricane: How to ensure your BC/DR Plan Can Withstand Disaster," Clark explained why disaster recovery is important, analyzed customer obstacles to deploying BC/DR solutions and delivered strategies for how to address these challenges.

"Here in Vegas, everyone likes to gamble -- but even the casinos don't gamble with their corporate data. Disaster recovery is no longer an option or back-burner issue, but an absolutely essential component of corporate operations," said Clark. "Loss of access to business data may very well mean loss of the business itself. Companies who haven't implemented a viable disaster recovery plan are putting their businesses on the line, and few executives are willing to take that risk with such bad odds."

In addition to detailing new products and technologies for disaster recovery solutions, Clark discussed real-life customer examples, including an IP-based solution at Honda in the United Kingdom; data replication at Bank Nederlandse Gemeenten (BNG) in the Netherlands; and long-distance replication at TELUS in Canada. Clark also discussed a Trans-Atlantic demonstration using McDATA's Eclipse(TM) 1620 SAN Routers for wire-speed storage connectivity to replicate storage data between Round Rock, Texas, and Limerick, Ireland, a distance of more than 7,500 kilometers.
