StubHub and Washington Capitals Make NHL Power Play; Online Ticket Marketplace Adds to NHL Team Partner Roster
Business Wire, Dec 7, 2005
SAN FRANCISCO -- StubHub, the leading open marketplace dedicated to tickets, today announced it has signed a sponsorship deal with the NHL's Washington Capitals. Under the terms of the agreement, StubHub is now the exclusive ticket resale marketplace of the organization and beneficiary to extensive online and offline promotional elements. The Capitals join the Dallas Stars as official NHL team ticketing partners of StubHub.
The NHL has made a triumphant return to the ice in 2005 and season ticket holders are now making spare tickets available on StubHub. With no listing fees, a safe, guaranteed and state-of-the-art trading environment and fair-market pricing, StubHub is increasingly the partner of choice for NHL and other professional sports teams.
"The Capitals are excited to offer our dedicated fan base this new option to secure tickets to our games," said Kevin Morgan, Chief Marketing Officer of the Washington Capitals. "As an official team sponsor, StubHub gives season ticket holders the ability to offer tickets to other fans for games they cannot attend, through a secure, guaranteed and team-approved outlet. This will allow more Capitals fans access to the best seats in our arena."
Season ticket holders are often unable to attend every single regular season game. By posting unused tickets for sale via StubHub, more Capitals' fans can choose to sit in premium seats, while season ticket holders can recoup otherwise lost investments. When tickets are purchased second hand, teams benefit by having one more passionate fan in a seat supporting the team and patronizing stadium offerings.
"StubHub has redefined the fan experience of buying and selling tickets to live sporting events," said Jeff Fluhr, CEO of StubHub. "The Capitals want to offer their fans the best possible secondary resource for buying or selling seats so passionate fans can watch their team play. This partnership further underscores our overall leadership in the ticket resale market and the NHL in particular."
StubHub continues to expand its roster of alliances with professional sports teams. Previously in 2005, the company announced multiple team partnerships with NFL franchises including the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons along with NBA members the Washington Wizards and New Jersey Nets. The company has also partnered with some of the nation's top collegiate athletic programs like the University of Southern California and Alabama among others.
