Independent Testing Verifies That Verso NetSpective® Filtering Technology Blocks Skype™; Tolly Group Testing Certifies Skype-blocking Capabilities
Business Wire, Dec 8, 2005
ATLANTA -- Verso Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSO), a leading provider of packet-based solutions, announced today that The Tolly Group has certified that Verso's NetSpective(R) Internet content filtering solutions effectively block Skype(TM) version 1.4.0.48 and the most recently introduced version 2.0.0.43.
The Tolly Group is an industry-leading source for IT certification, research and testing, and provides end-users with independently-validated information across a range of technologies. The testing results confirm that the NetSpective products, including the carrier versions (C-class and M-class) and the NetSpective 2.0 software upgrade for enterprise organizations, specifically block Skype software, an application that poses a number of security issues for carriers and enterprises. Applications such as Skype introduce several problems to a network, including:
--increased congestion on networks;
--interrupted or degraded service for mission critical applications;
--the violation of legal intercept requirements established by most nations around the world; and
--security vulnerabilities including distribution of viruses, denial of service attacks and remote access control
"Independent and rigorous testing proves that our product is an effective content filtering solution for carriers and enterprises that require the ability to selectively block unauthorized and undesirable network traffic," said Monty Bannerman, chief executive office, Verso Technologies. "This certification will provide our customers and prospects with independent confirmation that NetSpective effectively blocks Skype traffic and protects against critical and well documented network vulnerabilities presented by Skype."
