Adult Students Reap Advantages of Accelerated Degree Program from Nyack College
Business Wire, Feb 1, 2005
NYACK, N.Y. -- When you think of a college student, do you conjure up an image of a twenty-something student living in a dorm and sleeping late? Think again. More and more working adults are headed back to the classroom to earn degrees, increase self- confidence and open up new career opportunities.
The Nyack College School of Adult and Continuing Education's (SACE) Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCP) is designed for adults who have previously completed a minimum of 60 college credits. Classes are offered once a week at various locations in Albany, Brooklyn, Long Island, Manhattan, Queens, and the Nyack College campus in Nyack, New York.
For Kevin Hill, vice president of a commercial printing services firm, the radio ad for the ADCP he heard while driving made him realize the opportunity to achieve his goal was at his fingertips.
"Earning my Bachelor's degree was a life goal I had always wanted to achieve. As a former World Trade Center employee, I knew now was the time to accomplish some of my personal goals. "
"The Nyack professors are extraordinary. I gained a new perspective on business from my fellow students. Earning my degree has boosted my self-esteem and expanded my career opportunities.'
The structure of the program enabled Kevin to complete his degree while balancing work and personal obligations and has opened up new career options.
In addition to his career in the commercial printing business, Kevin is now teaching and lecturing on corporate diversity and strategic planning. Kevin is also enrolled in the Nyack Master of Science in Organizational Leadership program to further expand his opportunities for academic pursuits.
Mike Valloney was working as a detective for the police department when he heard about the Nyack ADCP from a friend. He enrolled and was inspired by his educational experience; he went on to earn a master's degree in public administration and a law degree. Today, he works as a hearing officer for a government organization.
"At the first class, my professor inspired me to tailor my actions to achieve my long- term goals. Without his inspiration, I would not be where I am today."
"One of the most valuable assets of the program is helping students improve their writing and communications skills, vital tools for advancing in any profession. Additionally, the real life business experience of the professors enhances the academic curriculum.
"The program teaches real life skills, applicable in any professional environment. The skills we learned gave me and my fellow students the confidence to tackle new challenges at work."
"The short completion time enabled me to continue my education. I can't emphasize enough the value of this program and the positive impact it has had on my career and my life."
