IntelliReach Unveils Multi-Layered Spam Filtering with MessageScreen 5.0; Unique Real-Time Pattern Analysis Technology Combats Evolving Spam Techniques
Business Wire, Feb 15, 2005
DEDHAM, Mass. -- IntelliReach Corporation, the email lifecycle management company, today announced the release of MessageScreen 5.0, a high-performance filtering appliance that blocks unwanted email. New technology in the latest generation of MessageScreen more effectively prevents unwanted spam, viruses and explicit images from being delivered to user inboxes.
The most notable and unique feature of MessageScreen 5.0 is the addition of Real-time Pattern Analysis (RPA). Most spam filters today simply analyze the header and contents of individual email messages, a first-generation approach which can be circumvented by sophisticated spammers. RPA technology supplements that sort of lexical analysis by detecting patterns in spam attacks.
The benefits of RPA are numerous. For example, since the technology is content agnostic, it can detect spam in any language or message format (image, html or text). In addition, its real-time analysis of email patterns acts as an early warning system for mass email viruses - which makes it an ideal complement to anti-virus solutions that sometimes need up to 24 hours to update their signature database once a virus is detected. And because RPA only analyzes email sent in volume, its false positive rate is almost zero for person-to-person communications.
IntelliReach's unique RPA technology represents the third generation of anti-spam/anti-virus solutions - building upon the first generation's simple rules and scoring and the second generation's Real-time Block Lists (RBLs) and trusted/blocked senders capabilities.
RPA is just one layer in IntelliReach's multi-layer approach to fighting spam, viruses and explicit content. IntelliReach's filtering solution provides 12 layers of threat detection, including all first and second generation technology, plus advanced image analysis and anti-phishing protection.
"IntelliReach has a proven track record of bringing the fight to spammers by keeping up with the evolving tricks and techniques they use," said Sam Levine, COO of IntelliReach and director of sampoll.com. "By adding Real-time Pattern Analysis, we've strengthened our defense to examine the broad patterns of email flow - which is far more effective than simply analyzing the contents of an email."
Other new features of MessageScreen 5.0 include:
--Advanced attachment management - attachments typically consume more than 80% of all email data and server resources; they put an enormous drain on network resources and often pose a security risk. Now, administrators can manage attachments by file type, file name and size to keep unwanted files from entering the network.
--Integration with MessageInsight - administrators gain more knowledge and control over their environment as a result of tight integration with IntelliReach's powerful reporting solution. They can now export and customize reports on spam and viruses to include viruses blocked, messages blocked by internet domain, messages blocked by internet address, messages blocked by reason, and MessageScreen traffic details.
--Import contacts - whitelisting trusted contacts minimizes the possibility of false positives and is now a simple task with the ability to import a user's entire address book.
"The pattern analysis feature not only quarantines messages that might be spam, but it completely eliminates messages that are definitely spam - which makes checking your quarantine a much less daunting task," said Joshua Mathews, Network Manager at Ampad. "Since we've installed MessageScreen 5.0, I have received several unsolicited compliments from end users about our anti-spam system; this is no small feat!"
MessageScreen 5.0 will be available this month through IntelliReach's professional sales organization or network of channel partners.
