Unisys and Red Hat Team to Broaden Enterprise Linux Capability; Unisys ES7000 servers now certified on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
Business Wire, Feb 15, 2005
BLUE BELL, Pa. -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) and Red Hat, Inc. (NASDAQ:RHAT) today announced that Unisys has achieved full Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4) certification on its Unisys ES7000 server line. Unisys is one of the first companies to achieve RHEL 4 certification for both 32-bit and 64-bit servers with up to 32 processors.
"For CIOs, the challenge persists - to standardize their data center environments in the most cost-effective way possible," said Leo Daiuto, president, Systems and Technology, Unisys. "A growing number of organizations seek to migrate their operations from expensive, proprietary Unix/RISC-based systems onto standardized Linux platforms. Through our partnerships with software providers such as Red Hat, Inc., and our continued commitment to the delivery of enterprise-class Intel-based solutions, Unisys is creating scalable, cost-efficient, robust Linux-based solutions designed to meet our customers' most demanding requirements."
Unisys customers will be able to purchase RHEL 4 with the full line of Intel-based Unisys ES7000 servers, from four to 32 processors, running in both 32-bit and 64-bit Intel environments. As the first commercial Linux product from Red Hat to be based fully on version 2.6 of the Linux kernel, RHEL 4 will debut the Security Enhanced Linux functionality - the National Security Agency-based Mandatory Access Controls security subsystem for Linux.
By using Unisys 3D Blueprinting methodology, Unisys consultants are already helping organizations understand the implications of business decisions from the corporate boardroom to the heart of the enterprise data center. As a result, Unisys clients are able to move closer to becoming 3D Visible Enterprises (3D-VE) - organizations that can see the impact of business decisions before they are made. The many benefits of 3D Blueprinting are now available to customers choosing to implement a Red Hat based solution and realize the economic benefits of standardizing on Linux with the ES7000.
"This collaboration combines the scalability and performance power of RHEL 4 with Unisys steep history in mission-critical computing to provide our customers with a strong case for deploying Linux at the core of their enterprises," said Mike Evans, vice president of Partner Development, Red Hat, Inc. "Through our partnership with Unisys, we have demonstrated the reliability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and our joint commitment to the continued expansion and enhancement of the ecosystem for Linux-based enterprise computing."
Unisys has achieved certification for its ES7000 enterprise server line, and will certify all future hardware components through RHEL 4 ensuring high quality and full compatibility with Red Hat's requirements. Through ongoing efforts, Unisys and Red Hat will continue to refine their joint solutions to provide customers with optimal performance and reliability.
