Toshiba Supports Educational Symposia on the Latest CT and MRI Developments at Snowmass 2005

TUSTIN, Calif. -- Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to advancing the use of the latest computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. (TAMS) announces its corporate support of "Snowmass 2005: Imaging with CT and MRI," an educational symposia held in Snowmass Village, Colo., Feb. 20-25, 2005. The conference features faculty from several of the country's leading medical institutions who will discuss a range of topics focused on the development and implementation of protocols for cardiology and radiology diagnostic imaging procedures.

Snowmass 2005 is planned and organized by Educational Symposia and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

Faculty speakers at the Snowmass 2005 symposia are Mark H. Awh, M.D., president, Radsource (Nashville, Tenn.); Bart L. Dolmatch, M.D., professor of radiology and director of interventional radiology, University of Texas - Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas); Georges Y. El-Khoury, M.D., professor of radiology and orthopedics and chief, Musculoskeletal Section, Department of Radiology, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; John F. Feller, M.D., assistant clinical professor of radiology, Stanford University Medical Center, and medical director, Desert Medical Imaging (Indian Wells, Calif.); Vassilios Raptopoulos, M.D., professor of radiology, Harvard Medical School, and associate radiologist-in-chief and director of CT services, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston); William Stanford, M.D., professor of diagnostic radiology, Division of Chest and Cardiovascular Imaging, University of Iowa; Mark L. Winkler, M.D., adjunct professor, Department of Health Physics, University of Nevada, and founding partner, Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (Las Vegas); and Melvin E. Clouse, M.D., vice chair radiology, director of radiology research, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, deaconess professor of radiology, Harvard Medical School. Toshiba speakers include Bob Giegerich, director, MRI Business Unit, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc., and Doug Ryan, director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc.

Dr. Awh is presenting on MRI of the foot, ankle, hand, wrist and knee. Dr. Dolmatch will discuss CT findings on the aorta and CTA of the lower extremity and measurements. Dr. El-Khoury will examine multislice CT of pelvic and acetabular fractures, imaging of upper extremity, cervical spine and thoraco-lumbar spine traumas. Dr. Feller is leading several sessions including topics on MRI of bone marrow, sports injuries of the shoulder and MRI of the hip.

Dr. Raptopoulos will be instructing attendees on his experience with MDCT in acute abdominal pain, MDCT of the liver and pancreas, CT colonography and CT angiography. Dr. Stanford will provide insights on the role of CT in cardiac imaging, epidemiology of heart disease and CT evaluation of pulmonary emboli. Dr. Winkler will discuss multi-detector MRI technology, patient-focused MRI, as well as MRI of the breast and MRI of the lumbar spine. Dr. Clouse will present on coronary artery calcification, CT coronary arteriography. Mr. Giegerich and Mr. Ryan will together address the future directions in MRI and CT.
