Andreas Weigend, Former Amazon.com Chief Scientist, Joins Poindexter Systems; Leading Behavioral Targeting Guru Brings World Renowned Consumer Targeting Expertise
Business Wire, Feb 22, 2005
NEW YORK -- Poindexter Systems, (www.poindextersystems.com), a leading provider of behavioral targeting solutions for advertisers, today announced that Dr. Andreas Weigend will serve as its Chief Scientist. Dr. Weigend is an expert in data mining and consumer behavior. As the former Chief Scientist of Amazon.com, he developed predictive models for recommendations and cross-selling.
"Poindexter Systems and Andreas share a common vision - to make advertising so relevant to each consumer's needs that it is a welcomed resource." said Rich Person, Chairman and CEO of Poindexter Systems, Inc. "Andreas did just that at Amazon using only their proprietary data; with access to much richer data at Poindexter there is far greater potential to increase the relevance of all online advertising and ultimately transform the entire online experience."
In the role of Chief Scientist, Andreas will bridge the gap between industry and academia helping Poindexter Systems to harness innovative new ideas and technology. And as an authority in data mining and computational marketing, Dr. Weigend's experience and knowledge will help guide product development and strategy.
"I came to Poindexter Systems because they are the best play with the technology and the expertise needed to predict online behavior and actually make the online experience better for consumers," explained Dr. Weigend. "Poindexter Systems has the potential to change the world of advertising by making it highly relevant to consumers instead of wasteful or painful."
Dr. Weigend's research leverages and emphasizes the importance of the situation and modality of each customer - a technique known as session-based marketing. In 1999, he co-founded MoodLogic, voted "best music organizer" by CNET. He also was the Chief Scientist of ShockMarket, creating information products and trading models based on real-time data from online brokerages, leveraging principles of behavioral finance.
Dr. Weigend has published more than one hundred scientific papers and co-authored six books. He currently teaches the graduate course Data Mining and Electronic Business at Stanford University, and the executive course Technology, Information and Innovation in Asia. Prior, he was an associate professor of Information Systems at New York University's Stern School of Business and an assistant professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
