NECA to Publish Giclee Prints from Tim Burton's ''Nightmare Before Christmas''; Collection Features Rare, Previously Unpublished Concept Art
Business Wire, Feb 4, 2005
HILLSIDE, N.J. -- Tim Burton has granted NECA (National Entertainment Collectible Association) master rights to create limited edition Giclee prints of never-before-seen art from his holiday classic "Nightmare Before Christmas."
The series of prints features illustrations created by Burton prior to the film's 1993 production. The first series, titled "Giclees Suite 1," includes six different prints, each with a limited edition size of 315 and all hand-numbered and personally signed by Burton. Each Giclee suite of six will retail from $1800 to $2400 and include a limited edition hard-back portfolio carrying case. Individual prints will be available for $450. Pre-orders for " Nightmare Before Christmas Giclees Suite 1" collection will begin Feb. 4 through www.timburton.com. The suite will also be available at selected retailers nationwide after March 1. NECA plans to publish the second series of prints later this year.
Joel Weinshanker, president and owner of NECA, is honored to be working with the famed artist, writer, director and producer. "I had been a huge fan of Tim Burton's for years before actually working on his film-related products," says Weinshanker. "Being able to publish Tim's vision is both a dream come true and a rare privilege for me. I look forward to a very long partnership."
Both Burton and Weinshanker felt it was very important to make the Giclees affordable to the average collector. "NECA will do everything possible to make sure the edition ends up being purchased directly by true fans," explains Weinshanker. "Strict limits will be placed on orders."
The term Giclee (Gee-clay) prints connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from extremely high-resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks on fine-art papers. The Giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction. The quality of Giclee prints rivals traditional silver-halide printing processes and is commonly found in museums and art and photography galleries.
Each piece in "Giclees Suite I" is printed on 225 gram fine art paper with a cold-pressed finish and neutral ph. Dimensions for the six different Giclees are as follows:
1 = 20" x 14" 2 = 15" x 19" 1 = 10" x 11" 1 = 17.5" x 14" 1 = 19" x 15"
The limited edition hard-back black portfolio case measures 20 3/4" x 16-3/4" x 1-3/4".
