Assemblymember Bill Maze Presents Lottery's ''Funds at Work'' Award to Tulare Union High School

Business Wire, Feb 6, 2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- "The Big Spin(R)" show, airing this Saturday, February 5, 2005, will feature Assemblymember Bill Maze who will present the Lottery's "Funds at Work" Award to Tulare Union High School.

Despite budget cuts and modest economic recovery, Tulare Union has established themselves as academic leaders by resourcefully putting Lottery funds to work. In addition to securing much needed instructional materials, Lottery funds are also used to support and enrich educational opportunities throughout the curriculum. This includes reducing class sizes in English and Mathematics, expanding the advanced placement program, funding necessary tutoring programs, providing testing incentives for students, and increasing counseling services.

As a result of all these programs, Tulare Union has achieved the highest academic performance growth of any high school in both Tulare and Kings Counties for the past three years. Tulare Union has been named one of California's Distinguished Schools and has received a Title One Academic Achievement award for better preparing students to master the standards.

The California Lottery's distinguished Lottery "Funds at Work" Award has been presented on "The Big Spin(R)" television show since April of 2001. The Lottery enlists various legislators to present these awards which recognize public schools and school districts that have made innovative and extraordinary efforts using their supplemental Lottery funds.
