Motive Extends Application Management Products to IBM Environments; Built-in Intelligence and Automation Improve Self-Managing Capabilities of WebSphere-Based Business Applications
Business Wire, Feb 7, 2005
AUSTIN, Texas -- Motive, Inc. (NASDAQ:MOTV), a leading provider of management software, today announced that it has extended its application management products to provide a range of automated configuration, problem assessment and problem resolution capabilities for WebSphere-based applications. Using Motive's intelligent application models, the company's products can now gather critical management data from IBM WebSphere, DB2 and MQ Series, allowing IBM customers to easily and rapidly plan, identify and respond to changes in critical business applications, and make these applications more self-managing.
At the core of Motive's built-in management approach is an intelligent model that defines the optimal state of a given application in terms of its key components, attributes, parameters and dependencies. These models are used to automate the discovery, analysis and repair of changes in application configurations over time and across environments, without the use of agents. For IBM customers, Motive's products can help manage WebSphere-based applications in the broader context of a heterogeneous application environment, speeding the processes required to administer a diverse enterprise infrastructure. In addition, Motive's products will complement existing tools used by IT operations, such as problem and change management systems, event management frameworks and application performance management tools with deep, application-specific configuration information.
In related news, Motive announced last month that it is collaborating with IBM on its Autonomic Computing initiative by integrating Motive Profile with IBM's Autonomic Computing Toolkit (see: Motive Announces Support for IBM Autonomic Computing Technologies). Combined, these announcements reinforce Motive's and IBM's ongoing commitment to reduce the costs and complexities of managing enterprise applications and systems through the implementation of intelligent, automated technologies.
"Our goal is for customers to spend less time managing applications and more time ensuring they advance the business' competitive position," said Jay Hallberg, vice president of product management at Motive. "Working with IBM, we can help customers achieve this balance by providing increased visibility and control over the lifecycle of their critical business applications."
