NFR Security Launches VoIP Protection Package for Sentivist Intrusion Prevention Solution; Sentivist secures corporate networks from growing number of VoIP threats
Business Wire, Feb 7, 2005
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- NFR Security, Inc., a leader in Real-Time Threat Protection(TM), today unveiled a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) protection package for its Sentivist (TM) intrusion prevention offering. This application security solution will protect against the growing number of attacks expected to be targeted at VoIP networks.
"VoIP security is primarily about maintaining Quality of Service (QOS) and preventing Denial of Service - ensuring quality bandwidth for your phone service, and avoiding the simultaneous loss of your data and voice networks are pragmatic concerns." said Greg Young, an analyst with Gartner, Inc. "We now see some Network Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) providing explicit VoIP security services via attack prevention, and QOS and rate-limiting services. Network IPS can be used as one part of a VoIP security strategy."
Specifically targeted in VoIP attacks is Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), a protocol that allows IP telephony users to send voice and data over IP networks. By exploiting SIP vulnerabilities, hackers can take control of a VoIP session and potentially gain entry into the entire network for malicious use. Users do not need to have an active VoIP session open to allow an attacker to trigger a security hole. As long as the service is enabled, a network is vulnerable to attack.
NFR Security's Sentivist VoIP protection package will detect and identify specific anomalies within the protocol. The package will also identify any new signatures focused specifically on VoIP. Any detected network intrusion focused on VoIP, either exploit-based or vulnerability-based, will be prevented by Sentivist.
"Business communication tools, such as VoIP and Instant Messaging, are quickly becoming adopted throughout enterprises to increase employee mobility and productivity. Unfortunately, these new technologies also create more security holes in the network leading to additional headaches for security managers," said Andre Yee, president and chief executive officer of NFR Security. "NFR Security's proactive protection packages for these popular applications will help ease the burden of securing these tools by offering real-time threat protection and peace of mind to security managers."
NFR Security offers an additional Sentivist protection package for Instant Messaging. The VoIP protection package is immediately available.
