Business Wire, Feb 9, 2005
MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- "Good Morning America," "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" and Other ABC News Reports Available for Streaming or Download on-Demand via CinemaNow Web Site
CinemaNow Inc., an industry leader in video-on-demand for broadband, and ABC News today announced a wide-range of programming from across all ABC News broadcasts will be available for streaming or download via the CinemaNow Web site, www.cinemanow.com. At launch CinemaNow will offer consumers 25 clips a week from ABC News as part of an expanding TV-On-Demand line-up. For the first time ABC News programming will be available on a Download-To-Own basis, increasing the ways ABC News is making the depth and breadth of journalism from ABC News available to consumers at their convenience.
CinemaNow will offer subscribers daily reports from "Good Morning America," "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings," "Nightline," "Primetime Live," and "20/20" in addition to high-profile newsmaker interviews and entertainment and business reports from ABC News. This extensive content will be available as part of CinemaNow's Premium Pass subscription service ($9.95 a month) and will be found in the "News" section of the site. In the months ahead select special reports from ABC News will also be made available on a Pay-Per-View and Download-To-Own basis.
Last year CinemaNow made available for download four ABC News special reports, Peter Jennings Reporting: The Kennedy Assassination - Beyond Conspiracy, Mel Gibson's Passion, Saddam: Capture, and Ronald Reagan: An American Legend. Today's announcement reflects the growing interest in rich media content as the number of broadband homes in the U.S. soars to over 30 million.
"CinemaNow has spent the past five years building up an audience that understands the power of using broadband for instant access to video content," said Bruce Eisen, executive vice president of CinemaNow. "The ability to deliver television and news programming is a natural extension of our existing service, and we are thrilled to provide our users with the high-quality productions of ABC News."
"No one offers more built for broadband news programming than ABC News. Providing great news content via CinemaNow means more viewers can take ABC News with them on the PC or other portable device and watch with the convenience of the Internet," said Bernard Gershon, senior vice president and general manager, ABC News Digital Media Group.
