V-ONE Unveils New SmartKey Solution; Secured Personal Token Device Now Available as a User Authentication Option
Business Wire, Feb 9, 2005
GERMANTOWN, Md. -- V-ONE Corporation (OTCPK:VNEC), a global Internet security company, today announced it has expanded its portfolio of authentication options to include SmartKey(TM), a portable USB security device that safely holds the user's personal token.
SmartKey integrates a smart card and reader into a single lightweight USB plug-in device. While the device resembles a ThumbDrive, it uses advanced technology to protect the memory ensuring the token cannot be copied. The user can conveniently store and easily carry their access credentials, while maintaining a high level of security.
"Security, convenience and affordability are the reasons we are so excited about our introduction of the new SmartKey solution to the market. There is clearly strong demand for VPN technology that can positively identify users in addition to securing data transmissions. SmartKey seamlessly interoperates with V-ONE's SmartGate(R) VPN to address these increasing security requirements," said Margaret E. Grayson, president and CEO of V-ONE Corporation.
"SmartKey addresses the mobility of today's workforce, allowing the owner to carry their digital identity wherever they go. With SmartKey, authorized individuals can gain access to their information from machines using V-ONE's intelligent client anywhere in the world by inserting the SmartKey into the USB port and typing in their PIN code," added Ms. Grayson.
SmartGate application layer SSL technology provides end-to-end AES encryption, FIPS validated multi-factor authentication, and fine-grained access control. Two-factor authentication is provided by a user-defined access code in combination with the user's private token that is stored on SmartKey. Other authentication options, including those employing biometrics, are also available.
"Many SSL technology solutions today secure the connection, but do not uniquely identify the user," said James Naughton, Director of Product Management at V-ONE. "SmartKey is particularly useful for defense applications and sharing of sensitive commercial information where establishing the identity of the end user is critical."
