Vault Releases New Employee Surveys on Genentech
Business Wire, Jan 11, 2005
NEW YORK -- New York research firm Vault (web site at Vault.com) has just published new employee surveys on biotech company Genentech (NYSE: DNA) that reported fourth-quarter earnings Monday after the closing bell -- providing "insider" information on corporate culture, compensation and hiring practices at the company.

Vault's employee surveys are designed to give investors and jobseekers insight into Genentech -- and for job seekers, the edge in this tough recruiting climate.
Says an engineer, "The company is growing very fast and has a lot of potential to further grow. It has a very solid pipeline with strong sell for those drugs that have been in the market. It will easily be the strongest drug company in oncology field by 2010."
But as to leadership, the same engineer writes, "Most of the managers have a scientific background and have been with the company for a long time. Therefore, a lot of them lack of management skills."
But a former manager adds, "If you are an older employee, 40 and above, the place isn't for you. The present regime is only interested in youth, youth. After 10 years of making money for this place I was told a new business computer program of Roche told them they had too many senior people and had to get rid of them. I was one. The company made double digit profits that year."
