Bodog Bowl Offer Declined
Business Wire, Jan 12, 2005
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- Bodog.com Sports Casino Poker(TM) announces, with great disappointment, that the US $50 million Bodog.com Bowl will not happen this year.
In sending direct offers to USC, Auburn and the NCAA, USC President Steven B. Sample was the only party to respond to the offer.
"Firstly, I would like to thank Mr. Sample for taking the time to respond to the offer in such a prompt and professional manner, it is a true reflection of his, and his school's professionalism," said Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog.com Sports Casino Poker. "We have received a massive outpouring of support from people all across the United States and abroad and we were looking forward to the opportunity of hosting this matchup for the fans of the game."
Bodog.com had offered USC President Steven B Sample, Auburn University Interim President Edward R. Richards, and NCAA Director Myles Brand the opportunity to compete in one final bowl game, with a total prize pool of US $50 million. The breakdown would have allowed both schools to immediately take a $15 million scholarship fund, with the winning school receiving a secondary $15 million scholarship fund. The final $5 million would have been given to the NCAA Minorities Opportunities and Interests Committee.
The deadline, which was clearly stated in the letters, was Tuesday, January 11, 2005. Myles Brand did not comment on this opportunity, yet in his yearly meetings noted that the average Division I university is expending $15 million a year. Our offer would have secured an additional $15 million for two prominent schools in the system, along with one of the two schools receiving an additional $15 million.
