Vault Releases New Employee Surveys on Motorola

Business Wire, Jan 13, 2005

NEW YORK -- New York research firm Vault (web site at Vault.com) has just published new employee surveys on communications equipment giant Motorola (NYSE: MOT) - providing "insider" information on corporate culture, compensation and hiring practices at the company.

Vault's employee surveys are designed to give investors and jobseekers insight into Motorola - and for job seekers, the edge in this tough recruiting climate.

Says a marketing manager, "It is changing to be a lean company focused more on bottom line. Somewhat "old boyish" but progressive. Employees have some amount of freedom in job mobility. Will have much more fierce competition in the Semiconductor industry, however may be able to respond more quickly with a more dynamic culture. Strengths include image in the industry, technology, and relationships. Weaknesses include on-time delivery and ability to adjust quickly. There is an obscurity in dealing with promotions and the inside track. Distribution channel is very solid as well as products and services. Employee morale is somewhat low."

A business development director writes, "There are a lot of smart engineers at Motorola, but not enough business people to make good and sometimes tough business decisions. Our product development cycle time is too long. Overall, it is a process intensive work place, and not enough direction and attention to marketing. Motorola has a lot of minorities and quite a few women executives too."
