LexisNexis Introduces PatentOptimizer for Intellectual Property Attorneys
Business Wire, Jan 14, 2005
DAYTON, Ohio -- LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of legal, news and business information services, today introduced LexisNexis(R) PatentOptimizer(TM), a new software application for the drafting and analysis of patent applications and granted patents. Designed specifically for Corporate Counsel and Intellectual Property lawyers, this powerful new tool enables patent practitioners to draft better applications and analyze patents at issue in litigation in a more efficient, automated manner than previously available.
Closely tied to the LexisNexis(R) services at lexis.com(R), PatentOptimizer allows users to quickly see patents and cases that have referenced key terms in their patent and link to them directly, as well as to analyze and produce reports on key term usage across claims and descriptions. In addition to integrating with both Microsoft(R) Word and Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer for application analysis and dissection while drafting, other key features are outlined below.
--Patent Citation automatically looks up the title, inventor, country and issue date of patent numbers in the document, as well as linking to the full-text of the patent.
--Check highlighted terms for prior usage in other patents, case law references and suggested alternative terms with the option to generate reports detailing all three terms analysis features. Plus, patents and cases are a click away on the LexisNexis services.
--The Mark feature automatically loads the Attorney's Dictionary of Patent Claims and Elsevier Science Compendex(R) publications, then scans the patent highlighting relevant terms that match.
--With Check Claims, quickly see terms used in claims that are not used in the description, as well as the various claims each term is used in and a hierarchy of term usage across independent and dependent claims with optional reports generated in one click.
--Confirm consistent language across part descriptive labels, and conveniently modify labels and part reference numerals as needed with Check Figures.
--The Drafting Options allows for customization of various components while drafting, for easier conversion to United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) compliant documents.
