Allied Telesyn Boosts LAN Performance and Security with Enhanced Layer 2+ Gigabit Switch
Business Wire, Jan 17, 2005
BOTHELL, Wash. -- AT-9424T Blends Layer 2-4 Intelligence, Intrusion Detection, Quality of Service with Tri-Speed Flexibility
Allied Telesyn, a global provider of end-to-end Ethernet/IP solutions for businesses of all sizes, has announced the availability of its AT-9424T 10/100/1000T managed Layer 2 switch, a product that blends enhanced security capabilities with tri-speed flexibility to create a best-of-breed medium-sized business network solution. Perfectly suited to networks of all sizes, but of particular benefit to medium-sized businesses seeking deployment flexibility and a more secure platform overall, the AT-9424T is a price/performance leader.
"Network Administrators have to balance a need for cost-effective, easy-to-manage switches with the realities of today's security concerns and today's budgets," says Philip Yim, Allied Telesyn Senior Vice President of Product Development. "The AT-9424T performs equally well in the core, aggregation or access tiers of the network, and puts an emphasis on the two most important things to mid-sized business: high security and a good price/performance ratio."
The AT-9424T is a 1RU, 24-port Layer 2 Switch with 2 standby 10/100/1000T ports and a choice of 2 active GBIC or SFP slots. It features 35.7Mpps of throughput, enhanced stacking ability for centralized management, and Layer 2 redundancy in the form of IEEE 802.1s Multiple STP, 802.3ad Link Aggregation, 802.1D Spanning Tree and 802.1w Rapid STP.
Advanced detection and suppression capabilities protect networks against malicious attacks, and Layer 2 adds a host of features for customized management, security and Quality of Service. Currently available and shipping, it has a target street price of $1,899.
With the addition of the AT-9424T, Allied Telesyn is now shipping three families of 10/100/1000 switches: the unmanaged desktop GS900 series, the workgroup and departmental 9424T, and the new 9900 Layer 3 series with advanced QoS, for core and server farm aggregation.
A key feature of the 9424T is its enhanced security capabilities. Every year, thousands of businesses fall victim to DoS attacks or viruses, disrupting business for hours, days or weeks. The 9424T features Tiered Security, which complements WAN firewall and PC anti-virus programs and fortifies the network against malicious attacks. In addition to Layer 2-4 intelligence, the 9424T uses authentication features such as IEEE 802.1x (Port Based Network Access Control) and Radius/TACACS . Each switch is also pre-programmed to detect six well-known DoS attacks: SYN Flood, SMURF, Land, Teardrop, Ping of Death and IP Options.
The AT-9424T provides smart management of network resources by offering ingress and egress rate-limiting to provision bandwidth, 802.1p and DiffServ for priority traffic, and CoS to DSCP remarking, allowing QoS to be preserved over a WAN.
With advanced AlliedWare(TM) technology, the AT-9424T switch is capable of deep-packet examination. "Network administrators can configure the switch to examine packet formats and content from the MAC, IP or TCP/UDP layers," says Yim. "It's the ideal gig solution to protect networks against Denial of Service attacks where they most often occur -- at the access edge."
"Allied Telesyn's Gigabit switches are designed to compete aggressively with bland products from other leading vendors, because we don't compromise on hardware and software functionality," adds Yim. "We can offer that better value because we leverage our global design and manufacturing organization and combine cost-saving competencies. That's how we can offer a Layer 2 switch, with QoS and security functions, at the price point you'd normally associate with a simple L2 product."
Allied Telesyn products are backed by a complete range of technical support options, including 24/7 web and phone support, professional services and, in most cases, a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Allied Telesyn products can be purchased directly, or via leading value-added resellers, e-commerce sites, and direct marketers.
