Ludacris and Sum 41 'Get Back' - Playing Together for the First Time on Saturday Night Live, Jan. 22nd
Business Wire, Jan 18, 2005
NEW YORK -- When one of the world's most successful hip-hop artists enlists one of the world's most successful rock bands for their first performance together, the results can be explosive - as millions of fans will witness when Disturbing Tha Peace artist Ludacris and Island recording group Sum 41 join forces for the first time as musical guests on next week's (January 22nd) edition of NBC's Saturday Night Live, hosted by actor Paul Giamatti (Sideways).
It all started when Ludacris, whose current single "Get Back" is blowing up the R&B/ Hip-Hop charts (from the already platinum, #1 debut, The Red Light District), was booked for his first-ever appearance on SNL. When the idea struck him to perform the current hit with a rock band, his first thought was Sum 41, a group whose music Ludacris has always dug. As it turns out, Sum 41 has also followed the rapper's career, and jumped at the chance to play with him. (Ludacris will perform his second single, "Number One Spot" with DJ Jaycee.)
In the grand tradition of hip-hop-meets-rock's greatest collaborations - from Public Enemy and Anthrax back in '91, to Jay-Z and Linkin Park last year, to Snoop Dogg and Green Day on New Year's Eve - watch out for Ludacris and Sum 41!
Sum 41 has been on-tour (most recently with Good Charlotte) in support of Chuck, featuring the current hit single "Pieces." "Sum 41's third (and best) album" (Rolling Stone) is also their most inventive and creative to date with long-time producer Greig Nori. It was named for the United Nations worker who daringly rescued Sum 41 from bombs and gunfire during the filming of a documentary in the Congo with the nonprofit group War Child Canada.
Ludacris and Disturbing Tha Peace recently signed a new long-term partnership with Island Def Jam Music group. The Atlanta based Disturbing Tha Peace label was founded in 1998 by Ludacris, Jeff Dixon, and Chaka Zulu. The Red Light District is the follow-up to 2000's triple-platinum Incognegro (aka Back For the First Time, with "What's Your Fantasy" and "Southern Hospitality"); 2001's triple-platinum Word Of Mouf (with "Area Codes," "Move B***h," and "Saturday (Oooh Oooh!)"); and 2003's double-platinum plus Chicken-N-Beer (with "Stand Up").
