ALM and Harvard Business School Publishing to Collaborate on Management Development for Senior Law Firm Executives
Business Wire, Jan 20, 2005
BOSTON & NEW YORK -- ALM, the world's leading media company focused on the practice and business of law, and Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP), publisher of Harvard Business Review, bestselling business books from Harvard Business School Press, and award-winning management development programs from HBSP eLearning, today announced "The Definitive Management Series," a joint initiative to present innovative management development events for senior managers of large law firms. Over the coming year, the series will offer eight two-day seminars, focused on key law firm "C-level" management topics.
The series will be produced by ALM, the publisher of The American Lawyer(R), Corporate Counsel(R), and The National Law Journal(R) among others, with content provided by Harvard Business School Publishing.
Featured speakers include editors from both ALM and HBSP, as well as law firm leaders and well-known management experts. ALM and HBSP will also work together in 2005 toward establishment of a networked learning organization to provide a forum for the exchange of business skills, concepts and best practices among leaders of The Am Law 200(TM), the nation's 200 largest law firms.
"Law firm leaders recognize the need to improve management of their businesses, as well as management of their practices, and to evaluate and apply management strategies and techniques developed by leaders in other corporate sectors," said William Pollak, ALM president and CEO. "This new partnership brings together ALM's extensive knowledge of the business challenges facing law firms with HBSP's high quality content to provide legal executives with insights and tools that can increase their leadership capabilities."
"Harvard Business School Publishing is dedicated to improving the practice of management," said David Wan, CEO and President of HBSP. "Our collaboration with ALM to deliver breakthrough ideas and best practices in business to senior legal professionals will not only extend the reach and impact of our content beyond its traditional environment, but also support our mission as we seek to play a role in the practice of management in all professions."
The first event in "The Definitive Management Series" is designed for law firm chief recruitment and professional development officers, and will take place March 9-10 in New York City. It will focus on critical issues such as on-campus and lateral recruiting, professional development, retention and diversity. The second series event will serve chief information and technology officers, and is scheduled for April 6-7, also in New York. Detailed program and registration information for the entire series is available at www.almevents.com or by calling 1-800-888-8300 x9191.
