IPIX Provides Video Surveillance at Presidential Inauguration; 360-Degree Camera Technology Enables Unprecedented Surveillance Capabilities
Business Wire, Jan 20, 2005
WASHINGTON -- IPIX Corp. (NASDAQ:IPIX), a premium supplier of 360-degree video surveillance technology, announced that its cameras provided video surveillance of the 2005 Presidential Inauguration held today in Washington. This was the first time 360-degree video surveillance was used to help safeguard a Presidential inauguration and was part of the security measures surrounding inauguration festivities.
The 2005 Presidential Inauguration was designated a National Security Special Event (NSSE). When an event is designated as an NSSE, the U.S. Secret Service assumes its mandated role as the lead federal agency to design and implement the operational security plan and manage all federal resources handling security. The FBI serves as the lead agency responsible for intelligence and law enforcement operations as well as statutory federal criminal investigations. The goal is to prevent terrorist attacks and criminal acts.
This marks the second NSSE for which IPIX's 360-degree technology supported security efforts, following IPIX's participation at the 2004 G8 Summit on June 8-10, 2004, in Sea Island, Georgia.
"The Presidential Inauguration is an important and historic event - a true celebration of the democratic process and American freedom," said Clara Conti, CEO of IPIX. "The inauguration faced significant security risks that needed to be addressed to provide safety for those attending. We are honored that IPIX technology was chosen to provide video surveillance for such a momentous occasion."
Since 1998, the U.S. Secret Service has led federal security operations for 20 NSSEs, including the 2002 Winter Olympics, Super Bowl XXXVI, the 2004 State of the Union Address, the 2004 G8 Summit, former President Ronald Reagan's memorial services and the 2004 Democratic and Republican National Conventions.
