Global IP Sound Releases New Voice Quality Enhancement —VQE— Module to Eradicate Echo and Background Noise in Voice-over-IP

Business Wire, Jan 24, 2005

SAN FRANCISCO -- First of Its Kind Solution Improves Voice Quality Within VoIP Applications and IP-Enabled Devices

Global IP Sound (GIPS), a leading provider of embedded voice-processing solutions for the Voice over IP market, has announced the release of its Voice Quality Enhancement (VQE) 1.0 module. This comprehensive solution is designed to handle the unique and complex issues of echo, background noise, and other voice processing concerns in VoIP communications. It is the first VoIP-oriented product to combine and optimize all of the necessary voice quality components into one, complete package.

"Historically, customers have had to turn to multiple solutions to achieve comprehensive echo cancellation and acceptable voice quality. By combining all of the necessary functionality of individual components into a single, optimized module, GIPS is able to deliver unmatched voice quality in a seamlessly integrated solution," said Roar Hagen, Founder and CTO of Global IP Sound. "Global IP Sound has a reputation for product innovation, and VQE continues that tradition. We are excited to add this product to our portfolio of voice processing solutions and anticipate great market response."

GIPS VQE 1.0 combines all of the currently offered Global IP Sound speech processing components that pertain to echo and noise reduction, and unifies them in a highly optimized solution that eradicates the need to acquire individual components separately. The module handles speech quality issues by canceling acoustic echo, distinguishing between speech and background noise, and then canceling or reducing this noise while maintaining a comfortable listening volume for the best sounding conversation possible. VQE 1.0 includes: Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC), Acoustic Echo Suppression (AES), Noise Cancellation, Noise Suppression, Voice Activity Detection (VAD), Comfort Noise Generation (CNG), and Automatic Gain Control (AGC).

Global IP Sound has leveraged its expertise in VoIP technology to create a complete, packaged solution designed specifically to handle environmental disturbances in VoIP conversations for a variety of scenarios. GIPS VQE 1.0 is compatible with software applications such as soft phones, as well as hardware devices like IP phones, and with some modifications, carrier gateways and IADs. The module is designed for easy integration into an end-point device so that customers can substantially reduce time to market while delivering unmatched voice quality. The module complies fully with the G.167 standards for acoustic echo cancellation.
