DiaSys Corporation Initiates Veterinary Field Trials for Parasep Concentration Device
Business Wire, Jan 4, 2005
WATERBURY, Conn. -- DiaSys Corporation (AMEX:DYX) a global diagnostics products company, announced today that it would proceed with field trials for its Parasep fecal concentrator device for the detection of ova and parasites in sheep populations in the United Kingdom. The trials have been scheduled at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) under the supervision of Dr. Keith Hunt. DiaSys Corporation is developing a kit system for agricultural use in conjunction with the VLA. The test will initially target the over drenching of sheep that become resistant to anti-biotics that are administered.
Professor Richard J. Whittington, Chair Farm Animal Health of The University of Sydney has agreed to similar trials with the intent of conducting trials concurrently. In addition to the problem of over drenching sheep in Australia, there are problems in sheep populations with Johne's disease or Paratuberculosis that require cell culture. Paratuberculosis has also been linked in humans to Crohn's disease, which has been receiving NIH funding in the United States to study the infectious cause of Crohn's.
The estimated sheep population of Australia is over 100 million. The estimated sheep population of New Zealand is approximately 60 million. The population of sheep in the United Kingdom is approximately 20 million. Many of these sheep need to be screened and monitored for one of the diseases that the Company's device assists in detecting.
"We are exited about the new veterinary opportunity for our modified concentrator and the prospect of its utility with regard to providing cleaner samples for cell culture applications for human and veterinary applications," said Gregory Witchel, Chief Executive Officer of DiaSys Corporation. "This is another example of the large-market opportunities available for many of our diagnostic products."
DiaSys Corporation designs, develops, manufactures and distributes proprietary medical laboratory equipment, consumables and infectious disease test kits to healthcare and veterinary laboratories worldwide. Headquartered in Waterbury, Connecticut, the Company operates in Europe through its wholly owned subsidiary based in Wokingham, England. DiaSys, Parasep and Urisep are registered trademarks of DiaSys Corporation.
