Bodog Announces Bodog Bowl for Auburn and USC
Business Wire, Jan 5, 2005
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- Bodog.com Sports Casino Poker(TM) is still awaiting answer from NCAA Director Myles Brand regarding the $50 million Bodog Bowl.
With USC handing the University of Oklahoma its first loss this season in the Orange Bowl, the Bodog Bowl would involve #1 USC vs. #3 ranked Auburn to determine the true NCAA National Champion.
"Clearly the two best teams in the NCAA remain undefeated after USC easily knocked off the University of Oklahoma," said Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog.com Sports Casino Poker. "Our goal with this offer is to put an end to all of the controversy surrounding the BCS system, and allow the two best teams to face off in a winner-take-all game which will inevitably crown a true National Champion."
The offer, which was officially extended yesterday evening, consists of a $50 million total prize pool. The breakdown allows each of Auburn and USC to receive a $15 million scholarship fund, with the winning school taking home an additional $15 million. The final $5 million will be allocated to the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interest Committee.
Formal offer letters have been issued to NCAA Director Myles Brand, Auburn University Interim President Edward R. Richards and USC President Steven B. Sample. All letters indicate the desire Bodog.com has to initiate this game, and allow the controversy to end. All offer letters also indicate clearly the funds being allocated to each school and the NCAA.
"We see this as a great opportunity not only for the schools and the NCAA but also for the true fans of football at the collegiate level," said Calvin Ayre. "We look forward to hearing back from the invited parties, and hope that we will be able to host the bowl game that ends all bowl games."
