Quest Software Named No. 1 among Windows Management Software Providers; New Report Identifies Today's Windows Server Platform Management Leaders, Future Market Direction
Business Wire, Jan 5, 2005
IRVINE, Calif. -- Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), the leading provider of application, database and Windows management solutions, has been ranked the No. 1 Windows Server platform management software provider according to a December 2004 report from Forrester Research. "Windows Server Platform Management," by Principal Analyst Thomas Mendel, Ph.D., highlights the importance of the Windows Server platform and discusses management opportunities and prospects for independent software providers in the Windows management space.
According to the report, Windows Server will remain the dominant operating system for deployment outside the data center in $1 billion-plus companies. While Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) offers a solution to the monitoring component of Windows Server platform management, Mendel believes that for administration and migration -- particularly around Active Directory and Exchange -- Microsoft still relies on third parties such as Quest Software to provide additional functionality, and will continue to do so.
"The vast majority of $1 billion-plus companies are now choosing to standardize their distributed computing on the Windows Server platform," Mendel explained in his report. "The increasing tendency toward server consolidation and centralization are driving the need for more mature management technologies -- not only for Windows Server itself, but also for Active Directory, Exchange, and other applications running on this platform. Consequently, the Windows Server platform management technologies market will continue to grow strongly through at least 2007 ... Quest Software is one of the companies that should be able to increase its market share in the short and medium term."
