AirDefense Wins Highly Coveted InfoWorld Technology of the Year Award

Business Wire, Jan 5, 2005

ATLANTA -- AirDefense, the leader in anywhere, anytime wireless security, has been named InfoWorld Technology of the Year in the Best WLAN Security category. This honor comes on the heels of AirDefense winning a Red Herring Top 100 Innovator award.

InfoWorld's annual Technology of the Year awards recognize the top nine technology sectors that promise to make the greatest impact on enterprise IT strategies as well as the products that best exemplify the implementation of those technologies. The awards are determined as a result of product testing completed through InfoWorld's Test Center. Nearly 300 products were reviewed in 2004.

"The InfoWorld Technology of the Year award acknowledges the best and brightest enterprise products that have fundamentally altered the IT landscape," said Doug Dineley, reviews editor for InfoWorld. "Those products named Technology of the Year are members of an elite group."

Wireless has risen to the forefront of today's enterprise. While highly desirable to boost productivity, wireless also opens backdoors to an organization's corporate backbone. Therefore when selecting AirDefense Enterprise as the Best WLAN Security product, InfoWorld considered the depth of security technology that enterprises could depend upon.

"We are pleased to be recognized as best in class by industry respected InfoWorld," said Anil Khatod, CEO of AirDefense. "Being the recognized pioneer and clear market leader in this segment, AirDefense continues to innovate to protect organizations against known and day-zero attacks and threats."

As the leader in anywhere, anytime distributed monitoring, AirDefense is widely deployed by Global 1000 corporations and federal, healthcare, financial service and retail organizations to ensure that regulatory compliance and security polices are met. Wireless network leader Cisco selected AirDefense to integrate with its wireless infrastructure offering. Additionally IBM chose AirDefense, among a number of contenders, to power its managed security services.

AirDefense Enterprise is based on patent-pending technology that incorporates distributed sensors with a server appliance. The remote sensors monitor all wireless LAN activities 24x7 and communicate with the appliance, which correlates and analyzes the data to provide the most advanced rogue management, policy enforcement, intrusion protection and health monitoring of the wireless LAN.

"AirDefense is a strong example of a solution that alerts you when abnormal events have occurred on your network, and is a serious tool for those wanting to monitor their wireless domain," said Dineley and his co-reviewer Victor Garza.
