inMotion Reign Continues with Altec Lansing's New iM4 Universal Portable Speaker System for MP3 and CD Players; One-Piece $129.95 Unit Travels Light, Works with All Brands

Business Wire, Jan 6, 2005

LAS VEGAS -- Fifteen months after its original inMotion(TM) portable speaker system became one of the biggest successes of the iPod economy, Altec Lansing(R) is introducing a new inMotion model called the iM4 that can transform any brand of MP3 or CD player from a private in-ear listening system to a public one. Just put away your earbuds, plug any player from a Samsung or Rio to an Archos or iRivers into the system, queue up your favorite Aerosmith or Nirvana tunes, and let the music fill the room.

Small and lightweight enough to stuff in a briefcase, the inMotion iM4 is a one-piece system with two speakers on either side of a 4.5" x 5" no-skid rubberized platform that holds a music player of any size firmly in place. The speakers stand nearly vertical when the system is in use, then fold down to platform level to form a flat surface slightly larger than 5" x 10" for easy storage or travel.

The speakers themselves incorporate many of the same audio components as the original inMotion to deliver the full-bodied sound that put inMotion on the map. The highly efficient 4-watt Class D digital amplifier powers four 1" neodymium micro drivers for clear reproduction over the entire frequency range and a noticeable audio advantage over two-driver products, while patented MaxxBass(R) technology creates quality bass that lets listeners feel the rhythm down to their toes without the need for a subwoofer.

A unique retractable cable used to connect the user's music player to the iM4 eliminates cable clutter, and an auxiliary input jack makes it possible to connect a second audio device ranging from another MP3 or CD player to a PC to create a two-in-one speaker system.

The black rubber overlay that covers the platform and matching protective aluminum grills that encase the speakers are designed to complement the color and texture of the leading music players. The iM4 runs on 4AA batteries (not included) and comes with an AC adapter and international plug-set that allows the system to be plugged into the wall to conserve battery power or keep the music playing between charges. The package also includes a power supply and carrying case.

The inMotion iM4 Portable Speaker System will be available in consumer electronic stores and online at www.alteclansing.com in February at an MSRP of $129.95.
