Highlights from the December 31st Featured Expert column by Gregory Spear includes:
If the market stays true to form, there will be a bounce in oversold technology names and a period of mostly unwarranted speculation in micro-caps before this bull market is over. Gregory Spear and his team expect beaten down telecom, IT security, biotech and nanotech to be lifted by this tide, as well. Here are brief profiles of three of the January Effect plays, which they included in their Long-Shots list.
Telecommunications Systems (NASDAQ:TSYS) recently announced a contract with the City of Baltimore to provide emergency communications capability via its SwiftLink deployable communications product, which will connect the city's Health Department remote location triage centers as part of the city's Emergency Response Services and ongoing Emergency Preparedness initiatives.
SCM Microsystems (NASDAQ:SCMM) announced a contract to supply the General Services Administration (GSA) with "tens of thousands" of smart card readers. The readers will be used to authenticate users so that access to critical information systems can be securely managed. The Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, the Interior, Veterans Affairs and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) may purchase as many as 40 million smart cards over the next four years.
Zix (NASDAQ:ZIXI): Healthcare organizations are being mandated to secure their email systems and Zix may benefit. Zix also provides anti-spam and web content filtering for government agencies and corporations. Zix also makes a secure e-prescribing software for physicians called PocketScript. The company has over 1100 doctors using it now.
