International Orphan Care Receives Contribution for Afghan Orphans; Vida Samadzai, Miss Afghanistan 2004, Secures Contribution on Behalf of IOC
Business Wire, Jan 6, 2005
LOS ANGELES -- International Orphan Care, a non-profit organization engaged in the provision of special services for Afghanistan's 1.7 million children who have lost one or both parents, announced today it has received a $10,000 contribution to provide support for Afghan orphans. The announcement was made by Mike Whipple, president and chairman of the board of International Orphan Care.
Vida Samadzai, Miss Afghanistan 2004, secured the contribution from Trilogy Capital Partners, Inc., a Los Angeles-based financial services company. Ms. Samadzai, active in a broad number of philanthropic and cultural activities to benefit her native country, made the presentation at the offices of International Orphan Care in Laguna Hills, California.
Mr. Whipple noted, "Afghanistan has endured twenty-three years of war and its people have suffered with poverty, brutality and anguish. An entire generation has lost its childhood with over 700,000 orphans living in sub-poverty conditions. We are reaching out to these children by providing a family-like environment, education, healthcare and vocational training, so they can become productive members of their community. We are grateful Ms. Samadzai has selected International Orphan Care as one of her sponsored charities."
Ms. Samadzai stated, "It is obvious from the enormous amount of media coverage which occurred since the conflicts began over 25 years ago that Afghanistan's children, especially the orphans, are in desperate need of our support. There is nothing more critical than providing greatly-needed services, particularly education and emotional support for a generation of children who have been left parentless as a result of the devastation which has occurred. I believe it is hard for Americans, and the world at large, to fully appreciate the value of not only providing the necessities of life, but the care and education they so critically need."
