eWEEK Magazine Recognizes Authentica's ''Classic'' Active Rights Management Platform; Authentica's Platform Cited for ''Cutting-Edge'' Features and ''Excellent'' Access Controls

Business Wire, July 13, 2005

LEXINGTON, Mass. -- Authentica, Inc., the leader in enterprise rights management (ERM) solutions, today announced that eWEEK Magazine recognized its Active Rights Management(TM) (ARM) platform in a recent rights management security evaluation: "If there is such a thing as a classic rights management platform, then Authentica's Active Rights Management would qualify," eWEEK noted in the June 27 review.

eWeek further noted that Authentica "provides many cutting-edge features that make it possible for a company to touch and audit all areas of content creation, viewing and distribution"; and that, when it came to the critical issue of integrating with corporate directories for user management, the Authentica Policy Server is "a champ."

Single Platform for Email, Document Protection

The ARM platform is the foundation of Authentica's extensive product line which enables companies to protect sensitive documents and e-mails. ARM provides a robust set of capabilities including: 1) dynamic policy controls that prevent unauthorized forwarding or distribution of content, 2) complete after delivery control that gives content owners the ability to change access permissions and expire or revoke access to content, and 3) a full life cycle audit trail that provides real time data on how content is used by individual recipients. The ARM platform helps companies protect intellectual property, enforce information policies, and meet regulatory compliance guidelines relating to customer/employee privacy.

Reviewer Rates "Access Controls-- Excellent"

The four-product review rated Authentica "Excellent" for Access Controls; "Good" for Policy Management; and "Good" for Reporting & Analysis. Overall, eWeek Labs found Authentica's ARM platform to provide "businesses with a broad platform for serious rights management." In fact, ARM was the only product reviewed that garnered an "Excellent" rating in the all-important Access Controls category.

eWEEK reviewer Jim Rapoza described the ARM platform as follows:

--The ARM platform "lets businesses add solid rights management capabilities to a wide range of Windows applications and integrate the rights management platform with nearly any authentication mechanism."

--"Installation and configuration of the (Authentica) Policy Server proved simple, and, when it came time to integrate with user directories, the Policy Server was a champ: The server easily integrates with LDAP servers, RSA Security Inc. SecurID servers and even older Windows NT user directories."

Recognizing the importance of after-delivery control of email content and attached documents, the review also noted: Authentica "let us quickly and easily control whether a mail message would expire after a set date, if it could be viewed offline for a time, or if users could print it or copy text from it."

"We're excited that eWEEK has given our product even more validation and we're confident that the Active Rights Management platform will continue to prove itself as the best product in its class," said President and CEO John Bruce.

In addition to dynamic policy protection and after-delivery control, the ARM platform supports direct integration within the widest range of desktop applications and formats, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook or Notes email, and web content. ARM also supports enterprise-wide integration with content management systems, email gateways, and portal applications.
