Lucent Technologies and NMS Communications to Deploy Advanced Voice Quality Product for Japanese Major Network Operators; New Echo Cancellers Help Network Operators Offer High Sound Quality
Business Wire, July 14, 2005
TOKYO & FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) and NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS) today announced that their new echo cancellers have been selected by Japanese major network operators to improve the voice quality of their next-generation networks in Japan.
Echo cancellers eliminate annoying echoes on phone calls. Such echoes are caused by network delays and by electrical faults (i.e., impedance mismatches) where local telephone lines connect to a digital voice network. The new enhanced optical voice processor has been designed by NMS and Lucent for high-quality broadband networks and will provide network enhancements, including increased density, an improved network monitoring system, and an STM-0 interface with a 52MB optical link.
"We are very proud to contribute to the business of Japanese network operators," said Toshio Takahashi, representative director and vice president of Lucent Technologies Japan. "With our more than 20 years of experience in echo cancellation technology and the collaboration with NMS, we are able to help them deliver next-generation networks having a high level of service quality."
Clarke Ryan, NMS Communications' senior vice president of Voice Quality Products said, "The successful completion of the development and the subsequent rapid ramp to volume production of full systems was accomplished through outstanding teamwork between Lucent Japan and NMS."
The new echo canceller is an enhanced optical voice processor that replaces previous generation echo cancellation equipment developed by Lucent nearly 10 years ago. The new design reduces the cost per channel compared to the previous product and enables wireless networks to support high-quality, high-speed wireless broadband services.
