Ixia Acquires Wireless Test Company and Introduces IxWLAN Test Suite for 802.11 Testing; IxWLAN Solution Extends Ixia's Proven Triple Play Test Suites to 802.11 Interfaces
Business Wire, July 18, 2005
CALABASAS, Calif. -- Ixia (Nasdaq:XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP network testing solutions, today introduced IxWLAN(TM), a comprehensive new family of tools focused on 802.11 capacity and performance testing. The new product line is a result of the acquisition of privately-held Communication Machinery Corporation (CMC). The Santa Barbara, California-based team is recognized for its expertise in developing tools for testing 802.11a/b/g networks and equipment. The team's strong technical leadership is reflected in five pending patents critical to wireless testing.
IxWLAN offers a set of test solutions that combine CMC's 802.11 station emulation and security expertise with Ixia's market-leading traffic generation and functional test applications, such as IxChariot(TM), IxExplorer(R), IxLoad(TM), IxVoice(TM), and IxVerify(TM).
"Ixia continues to execute on its strategy of integrating companies with proven technology that enable us to extend the capabilities of our single platform solution and gain access to new customer segments. The introduction of IxWLAN is a direct result of our acquisition of CMC, opening up the first of several high growth wireless test markets for Ixia," said Cliff Hannel, vice president acquisitions and strategy for Ixia. "The IxWLAN offering allows us to immediately provide a competitive solution for the testing needs of 802.11 equipment manufacturers, service providers, and enterprises."
IxWLAN is the industry's first portable open-air and cabled RF test solution providing repeatable WLAN tests with full 802.11i support, making it an ideal tool for WLAN engineering organizations and service deployment teams of Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and Fortune 500 companies. Complex performance test scenarios can be fully automated with IxWLAN to dramatically reduce the test time of WLAN access points, switches, and entire 802.11 networks. By leveraging Ixia's existing applications, IxWLAN can perform triple-play testing using voice, video and data traffic.
The technology at the heart of the IxWLAN product has a demonstrated market leadership position with hundreds of installed solutions and more than 90 customers worldwide, and recently received the prestigious "Best of Show" award at N I Tokyo 2005.
